Before you go
What every centre expects of you
The rules are the same at all of them.
Bring one original photo ID
From the official list — a passport, a Public Services Card with photo, an Irish passport card, an EU/EEA or Swiss national ID card, or an Irish car or motorcycle learner permit or licence among them. It must be the original, in exactly the name you booked with; without it you cannot sit the test and you lose the fee. The full list.
Arrive 30 minutes early
That is the time theorytest.ie asks for, to get through check-in before your slot.
Truck and bus tests need a licence too
For a truck (C), bus (D) or CPC test, bring a full car licence or the relevant learner permit as well as your ID.
From 1 November 2026, you must be 15
On the day of a car (BW) or motorcycle (AM) theory test. Until then the minimum is 14.
Support is at every centre
Headphones and an English voiceover, dyslexia support and Irish Sign Language video clips, chosen when you book. The car test can also be taken with a voiceover in 21 languages — which ones, and how to choose.
