Privacy policy

PassDrive is made and published by ITSS, which is the data controller for anything described on this page. There is no phone line and no published email address to scrape — reach us through the contact form, which goes straight to the person who builds the app.

The app keeps what you do inside it — which questions you have answered, what you got right, your mock results, the date of your test if you enter one — in the phone's own storage. It stays on the device. There is no account, no sign-in, nothing syncing to a server, and no way for us to see it.

There is no analytics package, no crash reporter, no advertising network and no tracking of any kind in the app. We do not know how many questions you answered, or whether you passed.

Deleting the app deletes everything it stored. Nothing survives it, because there is nowhere else for it to be — which is what the deleting your data page is about.

In practice you can answer by voice. The microphone is only listening while you have tapped "Say your answer", and it stops as soon as it has heard one. PassDrive never records audio to a file and never sends audio to us.

• On iPhone, PassDrive asks iOS to recognise the words on the device itself, and will not use voice answering if the phone cannot do that offline.

• On Android, the phone's own speech recogniser does the work — usually Google's. Depending on the phone and its settings that may happen in the cloud, under Google's privacy policy rather than ours.

• Either way, all PassDrive receives back is text, which it compares with the answers on screen and then discards.

Unlocks are bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google take the payment, hold the card details and issue any refund; we never see your payment information. What comes back to the app is simply whether the purchase exists, which is what opens the content.

The site is a set of pages about the theory test. It sets no cookies, carries no analytics, no advertising and no social or tracking pixels, and loads its typeface from our own server rather than from anyone else's. There is nothing here to consent to, which is why you have not been asked — the cookie policy is the short version of that.

Like any website, the server that delivers these pages keeps short-lived technical logs — an IP address, the page requested, the time — which exist to keep the site up and to spot abuse. They are not used to build a profile of anyone.

If you write to us, we receive your name, your email address, whichever test you picked and your message. We use it to answer you and for nothing else: no mailing list, no marketing, and it is never passed to anyone for their own purposes. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in replying to someone who has asked us a question.

Messages arrive by email and are kept for up to 12 months so the thread makes sense if you write again, then deleted. Our email provider handles them in the course of delivering the mail.

Under the GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to how it is used, or ask for a copy. In practice this only ever concerns the contact form, since the app holds nothing of yours — ask through the form and we will act on it within 30 days.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled it you can complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.

PassDrive is for people studying for a driving test, so it is written for over-17s and is not directed at children.

If what we do changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Anything that needed your consent would be asked for before it started, not announced afterwards.
